Update from Bristol Bay- Wild Alaska Salmon Season: 5-30-2022

BOAT WORK IS IN FULL SWING!

Mike's been working hard to prepare the F/V Courageous to launch. Our most loyal crewmember, Bhajan (who is now like family), is back for his 5th season with us. He and Mike have been putting in long hours doing a massive deep clean on the engine. Every season has its challenges, but there's obviously a much better chance of everything going smoothly if you catch potential problems in the preseason.

The guys come home very hungry and covered in grease.
They hoped to fire up the engine on Thursday, but as they were putting everything back together, a small part broke in three places. A replacement is being shipped up from Spokane, Washington, and will hopefully arrive today. If all goes smoothly, we're hoping to launch on Tuesday the 31st.

If you've followed us before, you know we're way ahead of where we were at this time last year! We're excited to get the boat in the water. As of now, the crew is hoping to leave Homer for Bristol Bay (a 4-7 day trip) on June 7th.

Our other crewmember from the 2020 season, Gus, will be back on the boat again this year. It's always nice to have a crew that's already worked together (and likes each other) since they'll be living on a 32-foot boat together for 2 months.
More updates soon!
