KNOW YOUR FISHERMAN

The O'Laires- F/V Courageous

Each summer, we harvest sockeye salmon in Bristol Bay, Alaska aboard our 32-foot gillnetter, the F/V Courageous. The rest of the year, we live on a small homestead in Homer, Alaska. We have 3 kids, Iris, Owen, and Eva, 2 dogs, 2 crazy geese, and too many ducks and chickens to count.

Mike has been commercial fishing for over 20 years. He moved to Alaska in 2000, and started fishing immediately. He grew up in Bellingham, Washington and is an avid adventurer and outdoorsman who is passionate about doing what he can to ensure the vast Alaska wilderness will be around for generations to come.

Maddie grew up in Dallas, Texas-  a far cry from the Alaska wilderness. She graduated from Loyola University in Baltimore, Maryland in 2009 with a B.A. in Communications and a minor in Business. Two weeks after graduation, Maddie moved to Thailand to teach English and travel around Southeast Asia. While trekking the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal, she met an enthusiastic father/son duo named Sean and Ben Martin. The two claimed they lived in the most beautiful place in the entire world- Homer, Alaska. After wrapping up her teaching program in 2010 and moving back to Dallas for a couple of months, she decided to take the Martins up on their invitation to visit. She booked a one-way ticket to Homer and was sold on settling there immediately. Maddie and Mike met in 2011 and the rest is history. Maddie manages all the operations of Smart Source Seafood.

We take great pride in our catch- each fish is hand-picked, bled, and iced immediately. We're honored to bring you delicious, dependable wild Alaska seafood direct from our fishing family, and hope you love our salmon as much as we do.
